Diagnosis: maximum body depth about equal to or greater than head length. Nostrils tubular. Lower pectoral fin lobes distinctly longer than head. Disc deeply cupped, triangular. Anus almost at posterior margin of disc. Dorsal finrays 51-55; anal finrays 44-49. Size: to 270 mm.

Habitat: benthic, on sandy-mud or mud bottoms, at depths from about 500 to 800 m. Food: amphipods, probably other crustaceans. Reproduction: no data

Distribution: Norwegian Sea, north of Faroer Is. to Bear I. Elsewhere, eastern Canada (St Lawrence River estuary).
