Diagnosis: esca with a bifurcated or paired, internally pigmented anterior appendage, a pair of medial filamentous appendages, a cylindrical, internally pigmented distal appendage 3-27% SL in specimens less than 100 mm, very prolonged (58% SL) in a specimen of 118 mm; a pair of antero-lateral filamentous appendages and a small trilobed posterior appendage.

Distribution: two of the five known specimens from the eastern Pacific, one from Indian Ocean, one from the Sargasso Sea and one from about 56° N, 26° W.
