Diagnosis: body elongate, its depth about 7-8 times in its length. Snout pointed, lower jaw slightly projecting; upper jaw reaching to about eye centre; front tips of both jaws cartilaginous. Dorsal fin moderate, with
16-21 finrays, its origin somewhat behind midpoint of body; pectoral fins small or absent; pelvic finrays 5; anal fin about equal to dorsal fin, with 16-19 finrays. Body scaleless. Colour: head and body in front of
pelvic fins blue-black, rest of body and tail yellow. Size: to 20 cm.
Habitat: bathypelagic at 2,000-3,000 m; rare. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.
Distribution: two localities only, south-west of Iceland and off northern Portugal. Elsewhere, southern part of western Atlantic (48° S).
Eggs, larvae and ypung stages. No data.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
