Accepted name: Raja rondeleti Bougis, 1959 (updated 2009-06-25)

Diagnosis: snout short; upper surface almost wholly covered by large claw-like thorns, but none outstanding or forming a pattern; underside with large areas of similar thorns. Colour: upper surface plain greyishbrown; underside ochre, margins of pectorals and hind lobes of pelvic fins somewhat darker, the tail dusky. Size: to about 50 cm TL.

Habitat: benthic in moderate depths. Food: no data. Reproduction: oviparous, no further data.

Distribution: French Mediterranean coast and Gulf of Genoa.

Note: species based on four specimens (only one specimen available to authors). Possibly these are merely excessively spiny Raja clavata.
