Genus Phrynorhombus

Phrynorhombus Gunther, 1862

Body rather elongate and compressed. Eyes separated by a narrow space or a bony ridge. Mouth large. Lateral line equally developed on both sides of body, with a distinct curve above pectoral fin.
Occur on rocky bottoms between 10 and 180 m. Feed on small fish and invertebrates. Reproduction between February and August.
