Flatfishes with the eyes on the left side. Preopercular margin free. All species from the Clofnam area belong to the subfamily Bothinae in which the pelvic fin of the blind side has a much shorter base than that of the eyed side.
Almost all species live on the continental shelf. They feed on small fishes and invertebrates. The species are easily caught in trawls and are therefore. often seen on markets, but due to their small size are of no commercial importance.
