Genus Mugil

Mugil Linnaeus, 1758

Body cylindrical, head broad, almost flat between eyes. Thick adipose tissue (adipose eyelid) covering most of eye in adults; hind edge of preorbital ending before corner of mouth; hind top of maxilla straight, not visible when mouth closed. Anal fin with 8-9 soft finrays; pectoral axillary scale well developed.
