Genus Chelon

Chelon Rose, in Walbaum, 1793

Body cylindrical, head broad, almost flat between eyes. Adipose eyelid not thick, not covering pupil; upper lip deep, with horny papillae on lower part (only at over 10 cm SL); upper corner of hind edge of preorbital terminates below front of eye; hind tip of maxilla curved down and visible when mouth closed. Anal fin with 9 soft finrays; no pectoral axillary scale.
