Centrolabrus Gunther, 1861

Body oblong, laterally flattened. Head and mouth small. 1 row of small canine-like teeth. Preoperculum edge serrated. Head scaly, except interorbital surface and snout. One row of scales on base of soft part of dorsal and anal fins. Scale rows behind eye 1-2. Numerous scales on inter-operculum. A few cephalic pores. Anal spines 46. No evident sexual dimorphism.
Littoral, near rocks and eel-grass beds. Feeds on small benthic invertebrates.
