Genus Hypleurochilus

Hypleurochilus Gill, 1861

Gill membranes not forming fold across isthmus. Dorsal fin notched between spiny and soft rays. Tentacles on nasal opening and eyes. Large canine teeth in both jaws; dentaries joined by ligament. Occur in shallow depths with one species in brackish water.
