Linophrynidae

Distinct from other ceratioids in having 4-5 branchiostegal rays. Females with sphenotic spines; pterygiophore of illicium short, concealed or slightly protruding near tip of snout; illicium short (less than 30% SL in most specimens); skin naked. Males with large, slightly tubular, somewhat forward-directed eyes; olfactory organs large; skin naked.
Genera 4; in Clofnam area 2, one of the others (Photocorynus) found in the Atlantic Ocean north of equator.
