Genus Leptoderma

Leptoderma Vaillant, 1886

Body eel-like, scaleless. Snout rounded, projecting beyond tip of lower jaw; upper jaw short, reaching to or just beyond front border of eye, lower jaw articulation below eye. Pyloric caeca 2. Dorsal fin origin a little behind midpoint of body, joined or not to caudal fin, with 27-67 finrays; anal fin origin before midpoint of body, joined or not to caudal fin, with 42-85 finrays.
Engybenthic on continental slope at about 500-2,300 m; locally common.

Species about 5; in Clofnam area 2.
