Oxynotidae

Small sharks (to 1.5 m). Body deep, strongly compressed, triangular in cross-section, with longitudinal dermal ridges between bases of pelvic and pectoral fins. Dorsal fins very high, triangular and broad-based, each with a large spine emerging from their anterior margins; first dorsal fin origin extending far forward over gill opening. No anal fin.
Benthic on continental shelf and (or) upper slope.
