Scopeliformes
With Scopeliformes the maxillaries are excluded from the gape. Photophores and adipose fin usually present. The caudal fin is forked with 19 pricipal and 6-26 branchiotegal rays. The pelvic fins, usually abdominal, have 8-12 rays. The swimbladder is physoclistic or absent. At least 39 vertebrae.
