Urophycis Gill, 1864
Moderately elongate gadoid fishes with 2 dorsal fins and I anal fin, first dorsal fin with more than 8 rays. Pelvic fin reduced to 3 rays, with a bifid filamentous ray reaching at least to vent. Frontals united. Opisthotic posteriorly without process (see Fig. 4 in Key to genera), post-temporal small, articulated only with epiotic.
Biology badly known, offshore fishes over muddy bottoms at depths of about 100 150 m.
