Very slender-bodied sharks with a low spineless dorsal fin very far back on body opposite anal fin and a long pointed caudal fin without distinct lower lobe or notch. Gill-slits 6, wide, the first continuous across throat, the others almost so, the slits with frill-like appendages. Mouth subterminal. Ovoviviparous. Feeding on fishes. Mesopelagic or benthic in deepwater of temperate seas; rarely caught and of no commercial importance.
