Carcharhinus Blainville, 1816
Relatively stout-bodied sharks, ranging from small to large (1-4 m TL). Snout blunt and rounded to triangular and narrowly pointed; eyes round. Teeth broadly triangular to narrow cusped, serrate and non-serrate, erect or oblique; cusplets present on upper teeth of some species. No spiracle. First dorsal fin origin from over pectoral base to behind pectorals; pectoral fins variably shaped from short, broad and triangular to long, falcate and slender; second dorsal and anal fins approximately equal in size, both much smaller than first dorsal fin; inter-dorsal ridge present or absent; pre-caudal pits well developed above and below; caudal fin well developed, upper lobe approximately twice length of lower lobe.
