Elongated almost closed-of sea between Arabia and NE Africa characterized by very high deep sea temperatures. Connects the Mediterranean with the Indian Ocean though the Suez Canal in the north and the Strait Bab al Mandab in the south. Also part of the common name of the Red Sea bream, Pagellus bogaraveo, family Sparidae and of the Red Sea tonguesole, Cynoglossus sinusarabici, family Cynoglossidae.
